Position Overview:
The Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for designing and executing marketing and communication initiatives aligned with the Business Improvement District’s (BID) strategic pillars: Administrative & Management, Marketing & Promotion, Economic Development, Public Realm, Transportation, Community Events, and Outreach. The Marketing & Communications Manager will play a key role in advancing BBID’s vision, ensuring the district remains dynamic, engaging, and welcoming for businesses, residents, and visitors. Collaboration with key directors and team members ensures strategic alignment and success across all BID initiatives.
Responsibilities Include:
Administrative & Management
- Collaborate with the CEO and BBID team to develop and deliver workplans, annual reports, analytics, surveys, and presentations tailored for diverse audiences.
- Manage the marketing budget, ensuring cost-effective strategies and optimal resource allocation.
- Maintain a centralized content calendar to align marketing initiatives across departments and ensure consistent messaging.
- Monitor and archive media coverage, including photos, and update the website with relevant materials.
Marketing & Promotion
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication, branding, and marketing strategies to enhance BBID's visibility and reach.
- Design, develop, and execute marketing materials, including social media content, website updates, email campaigns, and marketing analytics.
- Oversee the design, layout, and production of all print and digital marketing collateral to maintain consistency with the BID’s brand identity.
- Create and manage a storytelling strategy across all platforms, including the BID website, social media, and other communication outlets, in collaboration with the BBID team.
- Ensure the BID website’s content aligns with strategic goals and maintain regular updates to optimize user experience.
- Track, analyze, and report on digital engagement metrics, using insights to refine strategies and improve performance.
Economic Development
- Promote new businesses and developments within Ballston through targeted communications and campaigns.
- Collaborate with the BBID team to conduct outreach and educate stakeholders and members on BID benefits, programs, and initiatives, ensuring maximum engagement.
- Analyze, interpret and report economic, demographic, and sociological research findings.
- Oversee the promotion and data analysis of the Open Rewards loyalty program to drive customer engagement, support local businesses, and maximize program value.
Public Realm
- Develop and execute campaigns to showcase public space activations, beautification projects, public art, and infrastructure improvements.
- Collaborate with property owners, public agencies, and the Operations Director to promote and enhance public realm initiative.
- Design and implement wayfinding, district banners, and informational signage to enhance the district’s user experience.
Community Events & Outreach
- Provide digital and print marketing support for BBID events, programs, and initiatives.
- Build relationships with district businesses to identify trends and develop compelling story ideas.
- Capture high-quality photographs of BBID programs and events for use across marketing and communication channels.
- Lead or participate in planning and execution of special events, celebrations, press briefings, etc.
- Prepare and distribute bi-weekly e-newsletters and e-blasts, including developing and curating content.
- Oversee the promotion, execution and analysis of the hospitality-based programs to boost customer engagement, support local businesses, and showcase Ballston’s vibrant dining scene.
Transportation
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote multimodal transportation options and walkable connections within the BID.
- Collaborate with transportation agencies, local government, and community partners to align messaging, share resources, and increase awareness of connectivity initiatives.
- Monitor transportation projects and schedule changes, and provide clear, timely updates to stakeholders about potential impacts, ensuring seamless communication within the BID community.
Other duties as assigned. This position may require extended hours and working weekends for BBID events.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of experience in marketing and communications, preferably within economic development, business improvement districts, or a similar sector.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database management (GrowthZone preferred), email marketing platforms (e.g., MailChimp), and design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
- Expertise in digital content creation, website management, social media strategy, and managing print and electronic promotional materials.
- Proficiency in analytics tools to track digital engagement and measure campaign effectiveness.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage with various stakeholders, from team members, to business owners, to county officials.
- Experience working with volunteers or volunteer Boards.
- Must hold or be eligible to hold an ABC License in Virginia (https://abc.virginia.gov).
- Valid Driver’s License (Personal Vehicle Preferred).
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
Salary & Benefits:
- Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
